Supporting parents to help their child or children succeed.

A number of friends who are parents have told me they would support a development programme that could aid them to help their teenage children improve emotional inteligence.

This is something I know a lot about and want to help parents achieve so watch this space, a programme is coming soon. Marcia

Alpha Six a presentation skills training programme for 14-19 year old school students focussed on improving interpersonal skills.

Parents..... Did you know half of employers ranked improved interpersonal skills in their top three suggestions when asked what the education system might do to improve the employability of school leavers.
Students..... Have you given any thought to what your future would be like if you completed this programme? You could improve the way you present and be a cut above the rest at college, university and/or job interview.

Research tells us that by the year 2020, there will be 3 million fewer lower skilled jobs in Britain than there are today. This tells us that young people need to up their skills to be in with a fighting chance.

"Coaching is the single most cost-effective development investment an organisation can make as this learning naturally spreads across the workplace."The survey questioned participants about the value of coaching to their staff. The majority of respondents (95%) said coaching was a direct benefit to their organisations, with 96% seeing benefits to the individual. A broad range of specific benefits were identified, ranging from improvements in communication and interpersonal skills, to improved business knowledge and skills in specific areas and increased motivation levels.

The future for personalisation? Service users, carers and digital engagement

Carers and people who use services require information about the available sources of support; professionals need information about service providers to support effective practice in commissioning services. In recent years, social media has made an impact on the way much of the population communicates, collaborates and shares knowledge and information.

This study examines the relevance of social media to the development of personalised social care in general, and to self-directed support in particular. The focus of the report is the UK but, given the global nature of web-based communication, it does include some international initiatives.It should be noted that in such a rapidly changing subject, a report such as this cannot claim to be comprehensive.  Rather it provides an overview of a number of initiatives that demonstrate the diversity of of approaches.  The aim is to promote better understanding and stimulate further activity and discussion.

A review of the jobs market and the latest employment stats showed a marked increase in the unemployment, with significant impact on women and youth 16-24. On the subject of youth employment or more specifically employability comments from interested members of the public, business owners/prospective recruiters noted that young people... Lacked the skills required of business ... Struggle with commitment... and ... Have questionable time keeping.

Similar sentiments were shared within a live discussion with Joanne Gordon, Managing Director, Elite Telesales, who felt that young people lacked the communication skills required to be successful in business; most notably, the ability to build rapport and adapt their language and communication style to the needs of the audience.

Food for thought! It is this sort of commentary from business leaders and recruiters that informed our Youth coaching offer and more specifically our First 2 Present development programme. If you are interested in finding out more please click here.

I was fortunate to not only attend the Third Sector Digital Communication & Social Media Convention on June 14th but also to have been asked to chair the Digital and Social Media Service Delivery seminar in the afternoon.                 

Overall the convention was well presented and a great success. Jon Snow, the Journalist and Broadcaster, Chaired the first of the 2 day convention and made it look effortless. What skill!! By the end of the second day, I had learned a lot and realised not only how little I knew about the world of social media but how digital communication can help with business development. I heard some great presentations and listened to people talk about how creative they have been in their use of social media.            

The fact that I am placing my thoughts about the convention on our site, is testimony to the way I will be re-thinking the way I will be interfacing with the world of social media and digital communication. I will especially be thinking about how social media and digital communication will help to develop my own company, MED Executive Coaching and Consultancy LTD. 

I am so excited about how social media and digital communication is impacting on the social care environment, I have volunteered to chair a seminar at the up and coming Public Sector Convention taking place on September 14th 2011.
